Description
Louisito was a very unexpected son, who came to my mind one summer morning as I was about to go on holiday with my granddaughters. Those are the great blessings of creativity.
It’s a story about life’s surprises and the life-saving power of friendship. Years ago I had read an article which shocked me greatly. A parrot was confiscated from an elderly couple, with whom he had lived for more than thirty years. In the era in which they had received it as a gift, in fact, there were no laws requiring it to be proven by certain testimonies, so the result was that its existence was against the laws. In a short while the poor parrot lost all his feathers, being separated after so many years from his beloved companions, confined in a nature reserve, and then left to die of anguish. A few months later, out of the same grief, his companions also died. It is true that we have to respect all laws, but there must be some discrimination in their application. They could have asked them to pay the fine, and allowed them to regularize their legal status. But what happened is the opposite. The orders were implemented blindly and violently, and no one cared that the implementation of this ruling would lead to a state of absolute despair. In my short novel, fortunately, my story will end happily, and the love between Anselma, the old retired schoolteacher, and her parrot Luzito will overcome all odds, and triumph over all legal staleness.
